From 15 to 24th August anti-racists and environmentalists pitched their tents in Hamburg, in a joint camp with shared infrastructure, spaces and time. On 20th of august 4 people got arrested in Greece on the accusation kidnapping with a large ransom being paid. The people arrested are Polikarpos Georgiadis, Vasilis Palaiokostas, Vagelis Hrisohoides and one other, of whom the rest of the group has taken distance from because of his behaviour. On the 21st 4 other people got arrested for also playing a smaller role in the kidnapping. The person being kidnapped some months ago concerns the president of the union for heavy industry owners (employers syndicate) Georgos Mylonas, who not long ago caused some fuss over his sayings about working harder and longer in the factories. He was released after sum of 10 million euro's was paid, arranged by his wife. Media and police claim this money was meant for freeing Vasilis' brother from prison; Nikos Palaiokostas. Pictures in the bourgeois press show the large variety of ammunition, Kalashnikovs, an RPG, explosive devices, bulletproof vests and fire brigade uniforms that were found at the arrest. Stories of the amount of money being found back change every day. Police says that a big part of the coupons were marked and at about 150 different places they found them back.

German prisoners bound for hunger-strike over conditions

Almost 500 prisoners in Germany have answered a call for a co-ordinated hunger-strike on August 1st - 7th by prisoner solidarity group "Iv.i" (Representation for the Interest of the Detainees).

Mumia's Lead attourney Robert R. Bryan on his vistis to Berlin said repeatedly that it would be a great support to write to Mumia in his prison cell.
Mumia has been incarcerated in Pennsylvenia, USA for almost 27 years now. He was sentenced to death in a railroaded trial in 1982. His only "crime" is to be a political aware journalist who is capable of speaking out against poverty, police brutality and the engrained racism, war and many other topics. His journalistic work earned him the nickname "The voice of the voiceless".

Early Tuesday morning a technical problem caused 30 cubic metres of uranium-contaminated water to leak from the Tricastin nuclear plant near the city of Avignon in southern France. An old potash mine in north Germany containing nuclear waste is flooding with brine at a rate of 12 cubic metres a day, casting further doubt on the safe keeping of nuclear leftovers for a million years.

The G8 summit will be held from July 7 to 9 of this year, at Toya-ko lake in Hokkaido (Japan). In solidarity with the worldwide plan of actions held against the kind of globalization promoted by G8 and the repression of Japanese police against activists, an action also took place in Reykjavik Saturday July 5.
